Cornflakes & Honeybees

What has feeding cornflakes to your kids got to do with disappearing honeybees?
It's all explained - in voice and text - when you listen to this player:

How does the price of a bushel of corn compare with a "bushel" of corn flakes?
The "value" that is "added" to corn by the cereal companies is $ 129 PER BUSHEL!
That ought to make everyone forget cornflakes and eat corn-on-the-cob for life. You'd be adding value not via your wallet but through your teeth.

But there are hidden bonuses, too. As you chew corn, you prepare it for better digestion; you also save yourself from the dentist's drill because you get stronger teeth and gums. I'd rather have them than those sparkling white celebrity fangs.

But what about the diseases you get from meat processed in "hi-tech" U S.. Well, let the Atlanta-based Center for Disease Control's statistics tell you and let me know on my blog http://dadwok.blogspot.com/ where the REAL beef is?

NOTE: This is extracted from a Reith Lecture Dr. Vandana Shiva gave in 2000.

At the time the honey bees had not been disappearing from the United States.

But what she says has direct bearing on this calamity whch is on par with the Climate Change crisis.

The cereal and meat-processing companies use machines that run on electricity.

When electricity travels on wires, it sets up magnetic fields at right-angles to its direction.

Hight voltage transmission through the countryside throws out a continuous stream of magnetic waves which affect little critters like bees, wasps and other pollinating insects.

The cumulative impact is manifested in insects with their reproductive systems damaged.

Its like the old DDT story. DDT accumulated as it went through the food-insect,bird-reptile-animal chain, damaging them in the process, until it appeared in the breast-milk of human mothers. The scare made the health authorities paste posters: MOTHER'S MILK COULD BE HARMFUL TO THE BABY.

Of course, formula-making Grunch companies made a killing.
